Spf Sunblock
SPF is a number given to sunblocks that is determined by a laboratory as to it’s effectiveness.
Franz Greiter is credited with developing the concept of the “Sun Protection Factor” (SPF) in 1962,. It has become worldwide standard for measuring the effectiveness of sunscreen when applied at an even rate of 2 milligrams per square centimeter (mg/cm2).
As sunblock has been progressing over the years, we have seen several companies introduce sunblock with anti aging properties, as well as many sunblocks that have the ability to make the claim of being “Waterproof.”
SPF is a laboratory measure of the power and blocking ability of sunscreen. In short, the higher the SPF, the more protection a sunscreen offers against the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays.
The SPF is the amount of UV radiation required to cause sunburn on skin while the sunscreen is applied, in relative to the amount required without the sunscreen. What this means is that wearing a sunscreen with SPF 50, your skin will not burn until it has been exposed to 50 times the amount of solar energy that would normally cause it to burn.
The amount of solar energy you absorb varies with the time of day. The position of the sun, as well as your relation in regards to the location of the sun, are both factors in this process. As you arrive at a location closer to the equator, you have a higher chance of receiving more solar energy.
Generally, the protection from a particular sunscreen depends on factors such as:
- The type of skin the user of the sunblock has.
- How much sunblock was applied and at what frequency.
- What activities took place while the sunblock was applied.
- How well the sunblock absorbed into the skin.
Sunscreens with SPF 25 or higher that contain anti aging ingredients are always the best way to prevent wrinkles. Many people make the mistake of using a low SPF sunblock in hopes of getting that sun-kissed tan. It’s important to think about your skin and the future, because anyone who worships the sun and does not take care of their skin with a high SPF sunblock WILL wrinkle much worse than people who do take care of themselves properly.
